Self Storage Tip - 💡 💰 🤑

This Was a Win Win For Us 😲

As you know we dont give customers a refund when they vacate their unit 

However … Sometimes a customers asks for a refund IE Today 😲

This is how we play it to make it a “Win Win” ….

Mr Smith (not real name BTW 😅) left a note in his unit after he vacated. The note was asking when he would get his refund 

We emailed him explaining we dont give refunds, its like a Netflix subscription …. You pay for the 28 days even if you dont use them as per your terms and conditions (obviously nicer than that)

***(Mr Smith was pointed this out and explained how we operate when he signed his contracted)

Mr Smith emails back very angry and upset 

Our reaction … Simple 

(I’d rather have a customer who loves us rather than hates us  …. Longterm thinking is more important than short term profits) 😇

We email back saying something roughly like this -

“We have looked at your account and you have been a great customer for X months/years so we have took the liberty to talk to the director and ask him if he would allow us to issue a refund …. 

He has kindly said Yes 😀

A refund will be with you shortly 

Please think of us if you or your family ever need storage again”

Not word for word but you get the picture 

He emailed back thanking us so much!

We then obviously doubled down on it and sent him a review link asking if he would be so kind to review our site as we get bonuses based on reviews 😊

So why’s it a win win ??

Well … 

1 - If he accepted this is how we did things and there was a no refund policy in place (as per Ts and Cs) … We win in terms of money and his problem with us is defused 

WIN ✅

2 - If he didn’t accept the no refund policy (as he didn’t) we can play the good guys and say we fought for your money back and won … He now loves the team and appreciates them 

WIN ✅

To be honest I prefer number 2 …. 

My main aim is for a customer to want to use us again or be willing to use their social proof to recommend us  … 

BTW that probably will happen with option 1 as well … As long as we have provided more positive moments than negative moments
