My Cashflow Stress 😱

So its the end of the first week back to work (for most people)

How was yours??

Mine had ups and downs in it ….

Let start with the “UPS” -

• The sites are preforming incredibly well 🚨

• Revenue is up (we will cover that next week) 💰

• Reservations are great 🤩

• Churn is also very good for this time of year 📈

So im incredibly positive about the future of our sites and the future of self storage industry … Especially this year 🏆

Now the “Downs” -

• We had a MASSIVEEEEE vat return that we had to “beg, steal and borrow” to pay 💸

Haha not quite beg or steal but borrow.

Having a MASSIVEEEEE VAT bill is the result of having a blooming brilliant quarter (again, we will go through that next week)

So ultimately it means “cashflow problems” 😢

But Dean, if you had such a brilliant quarter why the cashflow problems?? ….

Great question ✅

I looked into this and the reason is simple …. Expansions!!

Here’s the expansions in the last 6 months -

Beverley - Spent over £100k on toppers (units at the top of my containers)

Mansfield - Spent over £400k indoor shopfit and containers

Clough Rd - £40k on new containers

Wrexham - £80k indoor shopfit and containers

Glasgow - Over £60k containers and grounds work

That’s OVER £700,000 in expansions to our current sites

Andddd all that needs to be paid for …. Ha obviously 🤯

Don’t get me wrong, were setting ourselves up to be a very profitable company but it does put certain strains and pressures on the business owner and the businesses cashflow along the way

To be honest … I have to keep reminding myself how much extra cashflow and profit the expansion will bring …

This week has been tough butttttt the stress WILL be worth it haha

My wife keeps asking me …

Why do you keep expanding?? When is enough enough??

The honest answer is, I can’t help it! I have this need and desire to ride this opportunity as hard as I can 🤷‍♂️

I was on James Sinclair podcast about a year ago and to be honest he said one thing that made me feel better …

He simply said you expand/grow because you’re an entrepreneur …. I LOVED that!

I even made my wife listen to the episode to help her “get me” (even though I was soooo cringy 😂)

So James’s I know you read this newsletter …. Thank You pal, it did and does help when I have cashflow problems … Ha which is often 😅

CRICKY …. That was long and honest … But I always said I want to be really honest with this newsletter and not just tell you the good stuff but also the real world struggles as well

I wanted to share something with you. I saw from an excellent entrepreneur called Gavin Bell (He’s just exited his company) 

He, as it happened, shared it from Chris Williamson’s newsletter and I bloody loveddd it!

It gave me such clarity! 

You can see the post and Chris’s diagram below, he’s called it Input-Output Delusion 

To put it as simple as I can, 

Chris is saying, don’t be a busy fool doing tasks that don’t move you towards your goal 

If what you are doing is moving you towards your goal … That’s progress 

If it isn’t … It’s not 

Simple … But bloody brilliant
