Is This Disrupting The Self Storage Industry?? 🤔

I LOOOOVEEEE Businesses That Disrupt Industries

But Self Storage is difficult to disrupt ….

Love Space (UK) and Clutter (America) and others like them tried to disrupt by On-demand storage …

…. BUT, I think that model is dying

Clutter just sold in distress for $40 MM … They Raised $439 MM … Not a great result

(I will be writing about that in a future newsletter)

Anyway, back to the question -

Can Self Storage Be Disrupted ??

Ive long held the view that storage is storage and ultimately can’t be disrupted

However, last week I heard of a new container storage opening in Beverley, so I thought id take a look … Obviously 👀

I actually know the people who are behind this storage facility … They are new to the industry BUT they are very successful in other industries

They are doing things slightly different …. Not massively different but ive certainly never seen it before …. And ive seen A LOT of storage facilities

Ultimately they are offering you a container PLUS your own mini locked compound to the left of your unit (the compound is roughly the same price as the container)

I LOOOVVEEE this idea … I don’t love it because I think its going to be ultra successful, I love it because they are thinking outside the box

They are new to the industry so they aren’t confined to the way the industry works and the usual format for storage

Do I think it will take off …. No probably not.

I think it will be very difficult to sell and explain the benefit of the compound … Its a very niche customer you are chasing

However, they only have a small facility so im sure they will do ok from this.

Im just not sure this is scaleable

I love the innovation though!!

My question to you is … Do you think self storage can be disrupted??
