My Story …

How did I get into storage??

How did I afford to get into storage??

I get this question so much. 🤨

So let’s dive in and answer it …

I had a bookmakers for 6 years …. Yeah an actual bookies 🧲🐎

It was the only thing I was good at … and I mean the only thing! 

Previously I’d worked at McDonald’s … Zero stars ⭐️

I’d also worked for my Dad … My Dad’s business partner actually told me that the company would be better off if they paid for me to stay at home … I mean that’s my own Dad’s company saying that  … 

It didn’t look good for me let’s be honest 🤷‍♂️

But thankfully … I understood racing …I understood the mathematics,  I knew how punters (people who bet) thought but most of all I had a passion for it 

Winner winner chicken dinner …. Ha my little saying when I won 

Anyway, after working on course and in loads of bookmakers, I knew I could do better! I knew I could tailor better offers for the punters

Ha, I know very confident!

So I opened my own bookies 

To be honest it didn’t make loads but it was successful 

I ran it for 6 years and sold in 2012 

I could tell that the marketplace was changing and the internet was changing the landscape for brick and mortar 

Luckily for me … Corals (who bought it) was still focused on brick and mortar instead of digital … CRAZZY!!

A monumental mistake and something they are still paying for 10 years later 

How much did I sell it for, I hear you ask ??

Mind your own bloody business 😂

Haha … I’m kidding 

I sold it for £345,000 

I had loans of £144,000 

So I netted £201k 

That’s how I got the money to start Beverley 

My Dad also invested in the company to start Beverley 

I believe the total cost for all the containers at Beverley was £360,000 (they aren’t normal containers … They are purpose built with electric roller shutters, plylined, insulated, lights etc … there’s a reason we won best container site 2022 you know haha 😝 )

Back then I didn’t understand or know anything about asset finance … So we paid cash for all the units (units sounds better than containers haha)

So that’s how I originally started with self storage and where the money came from to get going
